Settle Winch, Room 4 - Victorian Town House: King Bed & Cathedral View

Positive: Apartment was clean, small, and sparsely furnished, but was okay for one night. TV provided good access to channels and streaming. Shower room was very clean and spacious, with wall unit and drawers, which the bedroom lacked. Negative: My first time in a self entry apartment and did not feel comfortable. Doorway was dark, I needed my phone flashlight to find key pad, which took several attempts to "wake-up". Step was broken and a bundle of leaflets stuffed in the letter box and falling on the floor made the entrance feel unkempt. Narrow dimly lit corridor, communal room and stairs added to my unease. The room was cold.

I found the property itself tasteful, clean and comfortable,, but with issues. Positive: The property itself has been tastefully converted into excellent apartments and communal kitchen with appliances Clean, warm and safe. Spacious bedroom, plenty of hot water and quality toiletries and towels. Good lighting in corridors and room. Close to city centre if guests are fit and mobile on foot (very busy area.) Negative: The property is situated right on a very busy road, narrow pavement, yellow double lines in existence, with no parking facilities, and even "drop off"/ "pick up" facilities are difficult. No concierge or lift. 32 steps up to Room 4. No porterage. No light over entrance door. During 6 nights stay I saw no-one except on arrival I had to ask a young man for help with luggage and mid week encountered a pleasant young cleaner who I had to ask to service my room. TV and Wi-Fi had no connection or proper instructions in spite of codes given. Lack of physical human contact. Some of these issues were mentioned on the web-site, but not enough clarification. Self-check in means you are on "your own" which is difficult if travelling solo, especially if female in a "ghost" building.

Excellent location , very comfortable room with exerting I needed for a most enjoyable stay. Thank Positive: Room very comfortable. Shower easy to use. Lovely view from window of cathedral. Great location near to all the attractions and bus and train station. Keycode was very easy to use. Also very handy to ha ve access to fridge in shared kitchen. Bed extremely comfortable. Room very clean and tidy. Hosts were swift to respond to all my questions. I woukd highly recommend this place to anyone coming for a short stay . Negative: The only drawback was my room being up two flights of stairs. Was a bit of a struggle getting my suitcase upstairs especially as I have a walking stick and mobility problems. But I would not mark it down as I chose to book the room so it’s on me.

A really good choice. Good value, well located, clean. All the facilities I needed. Positive: I stayed in Room 4 which had a fabulous view towards the Cathedral and Winchester College. The room was comfortable and clean with a lovely bathroom. Having access to a kitchen was excellent - so helpful for making my own breakfasts. The selection of free tea and coffee was also good.
